The historic Casa de Rodas estate, with winemaking roots dating back to 1566, lies at the heart of Monção and Melgaço – the premier sub-region of Vinho Verde. In 2022, the Symington family partnered with Anselmo Mendes, the region’s most visionary winemaker, to bring renewed focus and premium quality to these legendary vineyards. Mendes, known for his innovative techniques including skin contact and aging wines in barrels made from native chestnut and regional woods, honors the land by embracing every element of terroir. Together, they blend centuries of tradition with sustainability and modern precision to craft wines built to age gracefully. Their flagship, Contacto Alvarinho, is mineral-driven yet softened by lees aging, trading the typical light fizz of many Vinho Verde whites for elegant depth.
