Bernabeleva -- 'Camino de Navaherreros' Tinto
I used to sell this wine to restaurants and shops when I was a sales rep many years ago, and I was so pleased to taste it again after so many years. It’s only gotten better! Truly rare to find such a light wine from this region, completely in balance and oh so fresh. The Bernabeleva style is decidedly old-school, focusing on extended macerations, zero use of new oak, and minimal intervention throughout. After 25-60 day macerations on skins, all their wines are spontaneously fermented with ambient yeast, followed by aging in old neutral oak barrels. With vineyards just an hour from the intensity of Madrid, San Martín de Valdeiglesias evokes memories of the past, with rugged terrain and a cool breeze.
Grapes: Garnacha 100%
Region: Madrid, Spain
Good to know: Organic/Biodynamic influence, hand harvested, a blend from all their vineyards, ambient ferment, neutral oak, can be served slightly chilled
