Not only is wine from Sardinia rare in the US, but from the Monica grape? Super unusual. This a hyper local varietal dates back to the 1400s when it was brought here from the Camaldolese Monks. Now synonymous with indigenous terroir in Sardinia, this grape was named for its proximity to growing near the monasteries (monks, Monica, aha!)
Grapes: Monica 40%, Carignan 30%, Cannonau (Grenache) 30%
Region: Nuraghi Island, Sardinia, Italy
Good To Know: Sustainable, Organic, 30 year old vines, partial maceration for a few minutes on skins, stainless ferment & aging, lightly filtered
